I am a dedicated educator and began teaching flute lessons in 1999. My students have shown marked improvement and demonstrated success in auditions and competitions. Some have pursued music as a career, while others have continued their musical journeys as amateur musicians or moved into a role as a consumer of music. I'm also an active clinician and adjudicator. I'm currently accepting students in my home studio in Williamsport, PA, on the Lycoming College campus, on the Susquehanna University campus, or via Skype. You can learn more about my private studio and the Lycoming College Flute Studio on their respective pages. Interested individuals can reach me on the contact page. I am also available for adjudications, masterclasses, and clinics on a variety of topics.
Teaching Philosophy
Music should be enjoyable, I love making and teaching music and I hope to help foster a life-long love of music in my students. My purpose is to help each student reach their potential and achieve personal goals. In a more concrete sense in terms of flute instruction, I believe in emphasizing strong fundamentals of playing. It is my opinion, that if one develops a beautiful and flexible sound, solid technique, and clear articulation, learning and making music are so much simpler. In an effort to help my students become well rounded musicians, concepts of style, history, and form are incorporated into the lessons. The ultimate goal is to help them become their own best teachers. Thus, teaching students how to teach is an important component of their lessons; students are encouraged to think critically about and explain pedagogical concepts or musical decisions.
