Penn State
I'm incredibly honored to share that, as of January 1, I've joined the faculty at the Penn State School of Music as the coordinator of the Partnership for Music Teacher Excellence-Student Teaching. I'm looking forward to mentoring young music educators through their student teaching experience and job search and continuing to cultivate relationships with music educators across the state.
New Positions
I'm honored to be teaching at my alma mater, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, this fall while my former teacher, Dr. Therese Wacker, enjoys a much-deserved sabbatical (her first in 17 years of teaching at IUP). I am enjoying working with her wonderful flute studio, teaching flute lessons and chamber ensembles.
During the 2018-2019 academic year I will also be serving as the interim coordinator of music education at Susquehanna University while my colleague takes a year of academic leave. I'm grateful for this opportunity to further mentor our music education students.
Summer 2018 Performances
I'm happy to be returning to the International Fellowship of Conductors, Composers, and Collaborators (IFC3) for the third year. I look forward to performing and recording chamber music with professors from around the country. I'm also looking forward to playing in the festival orchestra for Penn's Woods Music Festival, with the Williamsport Symphony, and in other performances in Central Pennsylvania.
NFA 2018
I'll be performing and presenting at the 2018 National Flute Association Convention in Orlando, FL in August. I'll be giving the NFA premiere of Bekah Simms' Skinscape for flute and prerecorded sound, performing with other alumni on George Pope's Tribute Concert, and participating in a panel discussion "Adventures in Adjuncting" where we will discuss the rewards and challenges of teaching flute as an adjunct faculty member.
Article Published
The November 2017 issue of The Flute Examiner includes an article I authored entitled "Listening and Research-Developing the Comprehensive Musician." I'm happy that the editors gave me the opportunity to share my approach.

I'm honored to be joining the Department of Music at Susquehanna University! As of November 2016, I will assume the position of Director of the Music Preparatory Program where I will be responsible for the administration of the program, curriculum development, and creating more opportunities for Susquehanna music students to gain pre-professional teaching experience. In Spring 2017, I will begin my appointment as an adjunct professor in the department. I am excited to teach "Music for Exceptional Students" a course that I firmly believe is an essential part of every music teacher preparation program!
International Fellowship of Conductors, Composers, and Collaborators (IFC3)
In June, I had the amazing opportunity to participate in the third annual International Fellowship of Conductors, Composers, and Collaborators. It was an amazing week spent performing and recording music with fellow college teachers from around the nation. In addition to the recording, which will be released on the IFC3 label, there was a live concert of the music recorded during the week. I also presented a lecture on "Grant Writing for Musicians" and performed a wonderful FNMC Composition Contest finalist work, What's Next? for flute, bassoon, and piano by Andrew Davis, on one of the chamber music concerts with two wonderful musicians; Douglas Owens, bassoon from UT-Martin, and Sun Min Kim, piano from IUP. It was such a wonderful week collaborating, learning, and making music with amazing musicians, I hope to return next year!
Performances with the Wildcat Regiment Band
I've been invited to join the Wildcat Regiment Band for a series of concerts. The Wildcat Regiment Band is a brass band named for the 105th PA Volunteers Regiment Band, known as the "Wildcats," a regiment formed from Indiana and surrounding counties. The ensemble performs music of the era on refurbished period instruments. This summer, they will be performing a series of concerts featuring music from the Port Royal Band, which used piccolo and clarinets. I'm excited to join them for these special performances and perform for the first time on a period instrument, (a six-keyed D-flat piccolo!). These programs will be presented at the Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville, KY and at Gettysburg National Military Park in June 2016. Stay tuned for announcements of fall concerts.
I am particularly excited about these performances as many of my ancestors served in the Civil War, including a GGG-Uncle who was a musician!
Performance at Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention
I will perform Tomorrow in Australia by Paul Richards at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention on February 20, 2016. The piece will be a part of a program of FNMC composition contest works and commissions entitled "Tradition Meets Extended Techniques." Also performing on this program will be David Graham, Keith Hanlon, Dan Perszyk, and Kathleen Winters.
Performances and Presentation at the Kentucky Flute Fair
I'll be performing two works for flute alone, Zhou Long's Confluence, and Tomorrow in Australia by Paul Richards at the Kentucky Flute Fair January 15-16, 2016. I will also be performing two flute quartets, French Quarter by Nicole Chamberlain and In Memoriam: Sacajawea by Greg Steinke with Shelley Martinson, Kallie Rogers, and Ai Yamaguchi.
I will also present a workshop entitled "Come and Get Your (Russian) Etudes!" introducing students and teachers to etudes from the Russian flute tradition, particularly focusing three collections by Nikolai Platonov and Vladimir Tsybin.
CD Release
Keystone Wind Ensemble's newest CD, featuring the music of Fisher Tull, has been released on Klavier Records! I'm so excited to be a part of their 21st recording (and my 11th!).

This award is given to "a flutists who has made outstanding contributions to flute study and to expose fine new scholarly work by NFA members and to promote the value of research."
